Making a Billboard out of a Window

We wanted to make use of our East window and turn it into a billboard. At first we were going to print decals, but then got the brilliant idea of painting it ourselves (duh). The painted letters let in plenty of sun, and the LED strip lighting turns the window into a light box at night!

We chose the words "ART HUB" – something short and sweet to describe what we do. Each letter was given a different treatment and texture, from broad painted strokes to ornate and drippy. The letter T is painted in the classic serif font Didot, while the B was made out of a blend of paint chips.

Materials:

• Crafter's acrylic & brushes

• Permanent Marker

• Dry Erase Marker (Good for guidelines)

• Masking/Painter's Tape

• Paint Chips

• Strip LED lighting

• Soldering Iron

Step 1: Clean the window and use masking tape as rough guidelines for your artwork.

Step 2: Paint backwards using marker and acrylic on windows following your sketch.

Step 3: Remove tape for the big reveal.

Step 4: Install LED strip lighting (requires soldering).
